The Japanese use cellphone text messages (SMS) for many clever services. Then again, the Japanese also enjoy pizza with squid topping. MOPocket points out that, just like squid pizza, Japanese-style services won't necessarily be a big hit in the United States. MOPocket discusses how SMS can be used as a technology component to build more complex services; I don't agree with his conclusions about what services will eventually make SMS messages more mainstream — MarketingShift probably has a better handle on what will really be popular.
